Using が すきです to express likes and dislikes

Attach が すきです after a noun to say you like something. Use が すきじゃありません to say you do not like it -- a very common and useful beginner pattern.

Attach ています to the te-form of a verb to describe something happening continuously or as a regular habit.

English Translation

Hey everyone! I'm Kanami. Today, let's talk about the World Cup! The World Cup has started! Are you watching? I've been watching too. It's so exciting! The World Cup is a huge international soccer tournament. It only comes around once every four years. So it really is something special.

Let me tell you a bit about me and soccer. Normally, I don't watch soccer at all. It's just not really my thing. But the World Cup -- that's different! The World Cup is genuinely so much fun. In 2018, I watched my very first World Cup.

That tournament was held in Russia. And ever since, I've really loved watching it. Every tournament, I watch it together with my husband. It's such a good time. Now, let me tell you about my husband. My husband is Colombian. And he absolutely loves soccer.

Like, really loves it. He actually works as a soccer coach here in Japan. He coaches soccer practice every single day. Pretty impressive, right? Now that the World Cup has started, he's absolutely buzzing. He watches every single game.

Every. Single. One. All of them! I could never do that myself! He's supporting the Colombian national team. I want to cheer for Colombia too. When we watch the games, we eat snacks together. We just enjoy watching it together. Now let me talk about the 2018 World Cup. The 2018 tournament was such a good one.

My husband and I watched a lot of France's games together. France were incredibly strong. And France won the whole tournament! I was so happy when France won. That's also when I first discovered Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe is a French player. 'senshu' means player. He wore the number 10 shirt. He was so young at the time. But so fast -- and so talented. I really like Mbappe. He's just a brilliant player.

Have you heard of Mbappe? This World Cup, there are four teams I'm supporting. Four teams! That's a lot, I know. First -- Japan, of course! I'm Japanese, so naturally I'm cheering for Japan. Come on, Japan -- do your absolute best!

Then there's Colombia. My husband is Colombian, so I'm cheering for Colombia too. And I'm also cheering for Australia. I used to live there. It's such a wonderful country. I hope Australia does really well! And Canada too!

I lived in Canada for a while too. Canada is a really great country. So my teams are Japan, Colombia, Australia, and Canada. Four whole teams I'm rooting for! That's quite a lineup! So -- who's going to win? My husband and I talk about this all the time.

First up -- Spain. Spain is seriously strong. Their players are excellent. Fast passes, fast movement -- beautiful soccer. Then there's France. France is strong too. They're the 2018 champions. And Argentina is another very powerful team.

They have so many great players. Spain, France, Argentina. These three teams are genuinely the strongest. But of course, I hope Japan puts up a brilliant fight too! Now, there's one more thing I really love about the World Cup. The opening and closing ceremonies. I absolutely love the opening ceremony.

There's music. There's dancing. There are incredible colours everywhere. So beautiful. Inside and outside the stadium, everyone is just smiling. Just watching it, I get so excited. The World Cup really is something special. Alright -- practice time! Try answering in Japanese.
