まいにち、おおくの ひとが スーパーに いきます。 たべものを かいます。 せいかつに とても だいじな ばしょです。 わたしも まいしゅう スーパーに いきます。 りょうりが すきですから、よく たべものを みます。 にほんの スーパーは、とても たのしいですよ！ では、くわしく はなします。
はじめに、スーパーの なかを みてみましょう。 スーパーの なかには、いろいろな たべものが あります。 まず、さかなです。 にほんの スーパーには、さかなが たくさん あります。 とても しんせんです。 にほんじんは さかなが だいすきですね。
つぎは、にくです。 とりにく、ぶたにく、ぎゅうにくが あります。 やさいも たくさん あります。 いろいろな しゅるいが あります。 そして、おべんとうも あります。 おべんとうは、ごはんと おかずが はいっています。 かって、すぐに たべます。とても べんりです。

Hello everyone! I'm Kanami -- a teacher at Japademy. Today, we're going to talk about Japanese supermarkets. This is beginner level. I'll speak slowly. Please listen along with me! Japan has a huge number of supermarkets. 'スーパー' is short for supermarket.
Every day, a huge number of people go to the supermarket. They buy groceries. It's an essential part of daily life. I go to the supermarket every week too. I love cooking, so I spend a lot of time looking at the food. Japanese supermarkets are genuinely so much fun. Let me tell you all about them.
First, let's look inside the supermarket. There are so many different kinds of food inside. First, let's talk about fish. Japanese supermarkets have a huge variety of fresh fish. It's incredibly fresh. Japanese people really do love their fish.
Next up -- meat. You'll find chicken, pork, and beef. There are lots of vegetables too -- so many different kinds. And there's always a bento section. A bento has rice and side dishes inside. You buy it and eat it straight away. Super convenient.
I buy bento pretty often, honestly. There are also snacks and drinks. The whole supermarket smells amazing. Japanese food is genuinely delicious. Your first time in a Japanese supermarket -- you'll be surprised by so much. Next -- let's talk about discounts. In Japanese supermarkets, prices go down in the evening.
'わりびき' means 'discount' in English. That's such good news, right? For example, bento and fish get marked down. Usually around 5 or 6 in the evening. I often time my supermarket trip for exactly this window.
Getting things cheap -- honestly one of life's small joys. Plenty of foreigners living in Japan are wise to this trick too. Definitely try visiting in the evening when you're in Japan! Next -- seasonal food. In Japan, every season brings its own special foods. For example,
In spring, there are cherry blossom sweets. They're adorable and delicious. In summer, watermelon and ice cream are really popular. Autumn brings persimmons and sweet potato snacks. And winter means strawberries and chocolate. Japanese people absolutely love seasonal food. Me too -- it's one of my favourite things about living here.
There's also something called 'kikan gentei.' 'Kikan gentei' means 'limited time only' in English. That's one more reason Japanese supermarkets are so exciting. Next -- let's talk about what happens after you pay. In Japanese supermarkets, you bag your own groceries. The staff don't bag for you -- you do it yourself.
The first time, it might catch you off guard! There's a packing counter right next to the register. You pay, then bag everything up there. Most people bring their own bag -- an eco bag. I always have mine with me.
Finally, let me tell you about how Japanese supermarkets look. Japanese supermarkets are incredibly clean. Everything is lined up beautifully. The way things are arranged is so careful and precise. The food just looks so appealing. I genuinely love this about Japanese supermarkets. Every time I go, it just feels good to be there.
