Teaching Japanese with Japademy means you become part of the best native Japanese language teachers world-wide. This is how we select and train our teachers.

Japanese teaching requirements

Requirements to be part of the Japademy teaching team:

  • Be a Japanese native person; and
  • Completed a Japanese Language Teacher Training Course (日本語教師養成講座 420時間); or
  • Passed a Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test (日本語教育能力検定試験); and
  • Achieved upper-intermediate to advanced English-speaking skills (equivalent to IELTS 5.5+ / TOELF 72+ / Cambridge B2+); and
  • At least 12 months of experience teaching Japanese online; and
  • Excellent Internet connection at home; and
  • Good video and audio quality for the lessons; and
  • Must be able to conduct lessons in a quiet space and clear of visual obstructions; and
  • (Optional) Experienced teaching Japanese using MINNA NO NIHONGO or GENKI.

Our hiring process

These are the steps applicants go through before selection:

  • Submit an online application for the Japanese Online Teaching Role (resume and brief about why the teacher would like to join our team)
  • Pass our Teacher Application Review Criteria (considers teacher Availability, Adaptability, Experience, English skills, Teaching methodology)
  • Pass a 45-minute Japanese Teacher Interview hosted by Japademy's lead instructor
  • Deliver a 30-minute Mock Teaching Session for a non-native beginner-level student and be assessed by Japademy's lead instructor
  • Receive an official invitation to be part of Japademy's team!

Ongoing teacher development

All our native Japanese language teachers receive training in which they:

  • Join a 30-minute training session led by Japademy's lead instructor where the basic elements of delivering a top-class online learning experience are covered
  • Join a 55-minute training session led by Japademy's lead instructor about how to prepare and deliver our Japanese Online Private Lessons
  • Deliver a 55-minute Japanese Online Private Lesson to a non-native beginner-level student under the supervision of Japademy's lead instructor
  • (Optional) Join and observe a 105-minute Japanese Online Group Lesson run by Japademy's lead instructor
  • (Optional) Deliver a 105-minute Japanese Online Group Lesson under the supervision of Japademy's lead instructor
